10th International Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography

Gas chromatography and mass spectro
metry
Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry is an Instrumental and analytical technique which is a combination of both mass spectrometry and chromatography which is utilized for separating, identifying and quantifying complex chemical mixture. the substrate mixture is vaporized and then the mixture is separated by gas chromatography followed by mass spectrometry where ions are produced for further separation. Ionisation Method is mainly utilized for the  ions production in Gas chromatography- mass spectrometry process
Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry technique is highly utilized in in Drug detection, Fire investigation and   Environmental analysis. It allows the analysis and detection of tiny amounts  in a substance
GC-MS  is used as   a forensic substance  which  positively identifies the presence of a particular substance. Gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS) are two instrumental methods of analysis and they can be linked together as GC-MS to allow substances in a sample to be separated and then identified.
Applications of Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry:
Chemical engineering:  GC-MS is used for the analysis of unknown organic compound mixtures.  Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry is used to determine the composition of bio-oils processed from  the raw biomass
Chemical warfare agent detection:  mass spectrometry  have been modified for field portability and near real-time detection of chemical warfare agents These complex and large GC-MS systems have been modified and configured with resistively heated low thermal mass gas chromatographs that reduce analysis time
Anti-doping analysis: GC-MS is the main tool used in sports anti-doping laboratories to test athletes for the performance-enhancing drugs
Food and perfume analysis: Foods and beverages contain numerous aromatic compounds and   some naturally raw materials during processing . It is also used to detect and measure  polluting from spoilage or adulteration which is harmful and which is often controlled by governmental agencies, for example pesticides.
Medicine: GC-MS can determine compounds in urine even in minor concentration. These compounds are normally not present but appear in individuals suffering with metabolic disorders. This is increasingly becoming a common way to diagnose.
